חָדַר: vb. surround, enclose concealing [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/tanakh/1495/2314/#m2)

**The whole BDB entry:** vb. surround, enclose (Ph. in deriv.; Arabic خَدَرَ / خَدِرَ ii. conceal, خِدْرٌ curtain concealing a person, chamber, house, or tent as concealing some one; Ethiopic ኀደረ dwell; Ph. is only חדר, חדרת (temple- or sepulchral) chamber (Lzb 271 Cooke 126); Ez 21:19 is best explained from Syriac ܚܕܰܪ go about, surround, ܚܕܳܪ around. It seems uncertain whether חֶדֶר, Ph. חדר chamber, Arabic خِدْرٌ curtain, chamber, tent, etc., are (ultimately) from this √ (as something surrounding); or (Buhl) from II. חדר = خَدِرَ ii. conceal behind curtain, conceal, confine, iv. conceal oneself, also abide, stay, remain behind (Lane 707 f.), Ethiopic ኀደረ abide, dwell (Dr, privately, Nov. 1905). v. also foll.)—only Pt. fs. הַחֹדֶ֫רֶת לָהֶם Ez 21:19 that which surroundeth them (of the sword),—so 𝔖 Thes Sm Co Da VB.
