### Meaning

1. (euphemism, UK, police and informal) a quarrel or fight at home between partners or family members.
2. (old) a servant who works in a house.
3. (travel) a flight inside one country.

### In the lessons

UK and Ireland police, neighbours and news use «a domestic» to name a family row without details; it can hide violence. The old «servant» sense appears in old books.

### Examples

- Police were called to a domestic on Elm Street.
- The neighbours were having a domestic again.
- News: «Officers attended what was described as a domestic.»
- In the old story, the family had two domestics and a cook.
- We took a domestic flight to Sydney.
- Chat: «They had a bit of a domestic in the supermarket.»

### Note

Can stand for «a family row» or «domestic violence». A serious matter can hide behind it. As an adjective «domestic» means «of the home» («domestic animals») or «of one country» («domestic flights»).
