### In the lessons

In writing lessons, when you write a letter, the addressee's name and address go on the envelope; you are the sender. In emails the addressee is in the «To» line. Phrases: «the addressee's address», «return to sender if addressee unknown».

### Examples

- The postman could not find the addressee, so the letter was returned. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x1)
- Write the addressee's name in the middle of the envelope. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x2)
- The sender's address goes on the back, and the addressee's on the front. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x3)
- Only the addressee should open this letter. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x4)
- Check you have the right addressee before you click «Send». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x5)
- The parcel said «Addressee unknown». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/A/addressee/#x6)

### Note

Spelled with double d, double s and double e. The ending -ee means the person something is done to (employee, trainee); the opposite is «sender». Do not confuse with «address» (where someone lives) or «addresser» (the sender, rare).
