### Meaning

1. (euphemism) a mistake made by not noticing or forgetting something.
2. (literal, formal) the job of watching over and checking something: oversight of the budget.

### In the lessons

Official letters, companies and politicians use it to make a failure sound like a small slip; all regions.

### Examples

- Leaving you off the list was an oversight.
- Company: «The error was an oversight and has been corrected.»
- It was an oversight — I forgot to sign the form.
- The committee has oversight of the school budget.
- Politician: «An oversight, nothing more.»
- School letter: «Due to an oversight, the trip date was printed wrongly; please see the corrected letter.»

### Note

Stands for «a mistake, something forgotten». Strange trap: «oversight» can mean both «missing something» and «watching over something» — read the context.
