### In the lessons

In history lessons the armoury is the store of swords, shields, helmets and later guns in a castle, fort or ship; museums such as the Royal Armouries in Leeds and the Tower of London show old armour. In stories a hero may break into the armoury to arm the castle's defenders. In everyday talk and writing the word is often used in a picture-like way: «the teacher's armoury of tricks», «a striker with a full armoury of shots», «another weapon in our armoury against germs». Phrases: «in the armoury», «a weapon in someone's armoury», «a whole armoury of».
