## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah it often means to call or gather the people together, as "assemble all the congregation" at the tent of meeting, or to gather as a community.

**Interpretation.** The gathering of the whole people is a repeated moment in the Torah, for instance at Sinai. Tradition sees such assemblies as times of shared purpose, law and covenant.
