# assuage

verb

«assuage» in the English dictionary: in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## In Jewish tradition

It is used for calming a king's anger, as with Ahasuerus, or for easing grief, as Job's friends ought to have done.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads Ahasuerus' calmed anger as part of the Purim story, where God's hand is hidden. Job's words show that real comfort needs kind words and not empty ones.
