### In the lessons

In English and history lessons it appears when we ask who wrote a text, and in discussions about copying and giving credit. It tells the reader who made a piece of writing. Common phrases: "the authorship of", "claim authorship", "disputed authorship", "joint authorship".

### Note

Usually uncountable: "authorship", not "an authorship". It comes from "author" plus "-ship" (like friendship). Copying someone's work and saying it is yours is called plagiarism and is cheating.

## In Jewish tradition

Interpretation: Jewish tradition says Sefer Yetzirah came from God and was given to Adam and then Abraham. Scholars of the time, like Mordell, say there is no proof of who wrote it or when. In the primary lessons: In English and history lessons it appears when we ask who wrote a text, and in discussions about copying and giving credit. It tells the reader who made a piece of writing. Common phrases: "the authorship of", "claim authorship", "disputed authorship", "joint authorship".

### Examples

- From the foregoing it is evident that so far we have no historic document by which to prove either the authorship or the exact age of the Sefer Yetzirah. (Mordell, The Origin of Letters and Numerals according to Sefer Yetzirah (1914)) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/A/authorship/#x1)
- Thus far. it has been impossible to determine tiic ago and authorship of tlic Sefer Yetzirah. .Tcwish tradition claims divine origin for it: it was intrusted by tlie Lord to Adam and after- wards to Abraham\*\*\*).
