## In Jewish tradition

It means that justice was done and punishment was brought for a wrong. The Torah and Prophets use it for God and for people who fought enemies.

**Interpretation.** Tradition reads it as justice restored by God. The rabbis teach that we should not take private revenge but leave judgment to God and the courts.
