## In Jewish tradition

A banner is a flag or standard raised to show who a group belongs to, or to rally them. In the Song of Songs it shows that love is the one who claims the lover.

**Interpretation.** The rabbis read the verse "his banner over me is love" as God's love covering Israel. The banner given to those who fear God is read as a sign that they will be gathered and saved.
