2. (informal) Dull or boring, with nothing exciting about it, as in «a very beige outfit». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/B/beige/#m2)

### In the lessons

In art lessons it is a neutral colour, made by mixing white with a little brown or yellow. In everyday life, many walls, carpets, coats and school uniforms are beige. As slang among young people, «beige» can mean boring or plain (a «beige flag» is a small odd habit of a partner, said jokingly).

### Note

Said «bayzh», rhyming roughly with «stage» but with a soft zh sound at the end. Spelling trap: b-e-i-g-e, «ei» not «ie». It is a French word that came into English. As a colour noun it is uncountable: «I like beige».
