«betting» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

2. Betting is the -ing form of «bet»: «I'm betting you'll like it» means «I'm sure you'll like it». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/B/betting/#m2)

### In the lessons

In maths it connects to chance and probability: betting usually loses money in the long run because the odds are set so the bookmaker wins. In safety and money lessons pupils learn that betting can become a harmful habit (gambling), and that betting is against the law for children. In everyday speech «I'm betting...» means «I think...».
