### In the lessons

In science and weather, objects are blown by wind; strong winds can blow trees down. In everyday life, balloons are blown up for parties and a light may stop working when a fuse has blown. Phrases: blown away, blown up, blown over, blown out, blown glass.

Irregular: blow, blew, blown. Say "has blown", not "has blew"; say "it blew", not "it blowed". "Blown away" can mean really amazed. Don't confuse with "blown" and "bone" — or with "flown" (from fly). Safety: stay away from fallen power lines blown down by storms.

## In Jewish tradition

Describes a ram's horn (shofar) or trumpet that is sounded.

**Interpretation.** The horn blown in a city is the warning alarm. Tradition links the shofar to the call to repentance on Rosh Hashanah.
