## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah to bring often means to bring an offering to the sanctuary, or for God to bring His people out of Egypt and into the land.

**Interpretation.** Tradition notes that to "bring near" an offering is the root of the Hebrew word korban, meaning an offering that draws a person close to God.
