### Meaning

1. (slang, euphemism, Australia/NZ) died.
2. (slang) broke down, stopped working.

### In the lessons

A relaxed Australian and New Zealand slang way to speak about death or a broken machine; jokey, rough, everyday. Never polite; not used at funerals.

### Examples

- The old dog finally carked it last week.
- My car carked it halfway to Sydney.
- Chat: «Phone's carked it, will text later.»
- The fridge carked it and all the ice cream melted.
- «Did the goldfish cark it?» «Yep, flushed.»
- The lawnmower carked it in the middle of the job.

### Note

It means «died» or «broke». Sounds rough and funny; using it about a real person's death can upset people.
