### Note

Regular verb: celebrated, celebrating. Noun: celebration; a famous person is a celebrity. Spelling: cel-e-brate. In time problems: "the town has celebrated its festival every year for 25 years" means it happened 25 times if it started 25 years ago and happens each year (check whether the first and last count).

## In Jewish tradition

To praise and thank God aloud, often in song, as the Levites did in the Temple service.

**Interpretation.** Isaiah says the dead cannot praise God, so tradition reads this as a plea to live so that one can still give thanks. The Levites' celebrating is the model for Temple song.
