# chastening

noun

«chastening» in the English dictionary: in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## In Jewish tradition

It is God's discipline, like a father's correction of his child. Suffering is meant to teach and to turn a person back.

**Interpretation.** Jewish tradition calls such hardships "yissurim shel ahavah", sufferings of love. They are seen as a father's guiding hand and not as hatred.
