### In the lessons

In history, monks wrote chronicles like the Anglo-Saxon Chronicle. In English lessons, a chronological report puts events in time order (from the same Greek word «chronos», time).

## In Jewish tradition

A written record of events, especially the official record of the kings of Judah and Israel. "Chronicles" is also the name of a book of the Writings.

**Interpretation.** Tradition holds that these royal records were separate books now lost. The Book of Chronicles retells Israel's history with an emphasis on the Temple and the line of David.
