### Note

Usually uncountable: «some corn», not «a corn» (except the foot sense). The meaning depends on the country: in Britain «corn» can mean wheat; «sweetcorn» or «maize» is the yellow one. In maths, it appears in counting and sharing problems (cobs, rows, kilograms of corn).

## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah and in British English, it means grain in general, such as wheat or barley, not maize.

**Interpretation.** Grain was the basic food of life, and Egypt's stored grain saved Joseph's family. The law protects the working ox, which may eat as it treads the grain.
