### Meaning

A corpus is a large collection of writing, such as all the known stories of one kind, or the whole body of a writer's work.

### In the lessons

in lessons and in scholarship, the whole set of tales or texts of one kind gathered together; (old use) the body of a dead person.

### Examples

- Scholars gathered the whole corpus of folk tales from the villages.
- The teacher read from a corpus of old poems.
- (old use) The corpus lay in the church.

### Note

nothing for maths; it names a whole collection, not a count of items.
