# corrugated

adjective (corrugated); also the past form of the rare verb corrugate (corrugate, corrugates, corrugated, corrugating)

«corrugated» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Shaped into a row of ridges and grooves, like waves, so the material is stronger; corrugated iron and corrugated cardboard are made this way. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/C/corrugated/#m1)
2. Wrinkled or folded into lines, like a frowning forehead. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/C/corrugated/#m2)

### In the lessons

In everyday life you meet corrugated cardboard in boxes and corrugated iron on sheds, fences and roofs, especially in Australia and New Zealand. In science and design lessons it shows how folding a thin sheet makes it much stiffer and stronger. A «corrugated road» (Australia) is a dirt road with bumpy ridges. Phrases: «corrugated iron», «corrugated cardboard», «corrugated roof», «corrugated plastic».

### Note

An adjective, not normally compared (not «more corrugated» in normal use). Double r: cor-ru-gat-ed. Corrugated iron is usually steel coated with zinc, not pure iron — the name is old. The waves make the sheet stronger in one direction but it still bends easily along the ridges.
