### In the lessons

In citizenship, history and news: corrupt leaders, police or officials who take bribes break the trust of the people; courts and a free press help fight it. In computing a file «corruption» means the data is damaged and won't open. In stories it shows a good character turning bad. Phrases: «fight corruption», «accused of corruption».

## In Jewish tradition

In Leviticus it means a serious moral wrong, or a physical flaw that spoils a sacrifice. In Job, Daniel and Isaiah it also means the grave, decay and ruin of the body.

**Interpretation.** The law forbids offering any blemished animal, since the offering must be whole and perfect. Isaiah's "pit of corruption" is read as the grave, from which God rescues the one who repents.
