### Note

Counting is the basis of every operation; no clue for which one. «Count on» from the bigger number to add; «count back» to subtract; skip-counting in equal steps is multiplying. «count on someone» means to trust them, not adding.

## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah it can also mean to reckon something as a quality, as in "counted it to him for righteousness."

**Interpretation.** Abraham's faith was counted as righteousness, which tradition takes as God valuing trust. The census and the counting of the Omer are also commanded.
