### In the lessons

maths: an area or distance already done, or the part covered; «covered 30 miles» is distance travelled; the rest = total − covered; fractions of an area covered; everyday life: covered in mud, a covered bridge; science: most of Earth is covered by water

### Examples

### Note

Says a part is done: the rest is total minus covered. Trap: «half covered» is a fraction of the whole area, not of the part left.

## In Jewish tradition

Having something over or on it. In the Writings it is also used for shame, grief or anger, as when a head or face is covered in mourning.

**Interpretation.** Covering the head is a sign of mourning in the Writings, as with Haman. The tradition also reads God's anger "covering" His people in Lamentations as the pain of exile.
