## In Jewish tradition

It means greed for gain, which the Psalms, Proverbs and prophets condemn. The psalmist prays to be turned away from it.

**Interpretation.** The tradition holds that being content with what you have is true wealth. The prayer to turn the heart from greed is seen as a model for asking God's help against temptation.
