### In the lessons

In road safety lessons: cross at the crosswalk, wait for the walk signal, look left and right (and left again), and make sure cars have stopped. In the UK it is a «zebra crossing» or «pedestrian crossing»; in Australia a «pedestrian crossing» or «zebra crossing». Phrases: «use the crosswalk», «at the crosswalk», «crossing guard».

### Note

Mostly American and Canadian English. UK/Australia/NZ: «pedestrian crossing», «zebra crossing», «pelican crossing». A crosswalk does not make you totally safe: drivers may not see you, so check before stepping out.
