### In the lessons

In science and health lessons: some illnesses have a cure (many infections), others can only be treated or prevented, for example with vaccines; scientists research cures. In stories, heroes search for a magic cure. Phrases: a cure for, cure-all, prevention is better than cure.

### Note

Use «a cure for» (not «a cure of»). Treatment helps you feel better; a cure makes the illness go away. Trap: antibiotics do not cure colds or flu, because those are caused by viruses.

## In Jewish tradition

It means healing, often by God. Jeremiah promises healing, and says Egypt's medicines are no cure.

**Interpretation.** God is called the healer of Israel. The tradition teaches that real healing comes from Him, and Jews say a prayer for healing to ask for it.
