### In the lessons

In geography and science lessons cyclones, hurricanes and typhoons are the same kind of storm with different names in different places. In Australia and New Zealand people get cyclone warnings and prepare: stay indoors, keep away from windows, have water, torches and a radio ready, and follow orders to evacuate. Phrases: «tropical cyclone», «cyclone warning», «the eye of the cyclone», «cyclone season».

### Note

Countable. Same storm type: hurricane (Atlantic and NE Pacific), typhoon (NW Pacific), cyclone (Indian Ocean, South Pacific, Australia). A tornado is different: much smaller, forms over land. Myth: the calm eye means the storm is over — it is not; winds return from the other side.
