### In the lessons

In maths and exam instructions: «disregard the units» or «disregard any remainder» tells you to leave something out. In safety and the news: «a disregard for safety» shows someone was careless. Phrases: disregard the rules, complete disregard for, please disregard.

### Note

Formal; in speech say «ignore». Regular verb: disregarded. Uncountable as a noun: disregard for (not «a disregard of» usually). In maths: «disregard the remainder» in 17 ÷ 5 gives 3 (the remainder 2 is left out).
