### In the lessons

In safety stories people get hurt by disregarding rules or warnings; in maths and science «disregarding» tells you to leave a thing out of the count or calculation (disregarding air resistance). Phrases: «disregarding the rules», «disregarding the cost», «disregarding the remainder».

### Note

-ing form of «disregard». Formal; in everyday speech say «ignoring» or «not counting». In maths, «disregarding X» means remove X from the total before you work: for example, 10 sweets disregarding the 2 broken ones leaves 8.
