### In the lessons

In science and stories divers explore the sea, coral reefs and wrecks; maths problems use depths below sea level as negative numbers. Phrases: «deep-sea diver», «scuba diver», «high diver».

- On the seashore and at the mouths of the rivers the divers seek for pearls, and in some valleys diamonds are plentiful. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/D/diver/#x7)

### Note

Countable. Verb: dive (past: dived, or dove in the US). Maths: depth below sea level is written as a negative number. Safety: never dive into water you don't know.

## In Jewish tradition

In the King James-style language it means various or different, not a swimmer. It is an old word for several.

**Interpretation.** Proverbs condemns using different weights for buying and selling, as God demands honest business dealings.

### Examples

- Nevertheless divers of Asher and Manasseh and of Zebulun humbled themselves, and came to Jerusalem. (Writings 2CH.30.11, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/D/diver/#x1)

- Divers weights are an abomination to the LORD; and a false balance is not good. (Writings PRO.20.23, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/D/diver/#x3)
