## In Jewish tradition

It is a sign of weakness and ruin; Ezekiel's "cup" of drunkenness stands for God's judgment, and Ecclesiastes praises rulers who eat in self-control.

**Interpretation.** Tradition sees drinking too much as dangerous and as a cause of sin, though wine in proper measure is part of holy days.
