# dusk

noun (dusk — uncountable)

«dusk» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. The time of evening just after the sun has set, when it is getting dark but is not fully dark yet. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/D/dusk/#m1)
2. The dim light at that time. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/D/dusk/#m2)

### In the lessons

In science, dusk comes after sunset, when the Sun is just below the horizon; dawn is the matching time in the morning. Some animals are most active at dusk and dawn (crepuscular): bats, foxes, deer, rabbits and many insects. In road safety, dusk is a hard time for drivers to see, so wear bright or reflective clothes and use bike lights. In everyday life, children may need to be home "by dusk". In stories, dusk sets a mysterious, quiet mood. Phrases: "at dusk", "from dawn to dusk", "after dusk", "dusk falls".

## In Jewish tradition
