Uncountable noun from the adjective «eager»; the adverb is «eagerly». Often followed by «to + verb» (eagerness to win) or «for + noun» (eagerness for news). Do not confuse «eager» (keen, wanting) with «anxious» (worried), though people sometimes use «anxious to» for eager.
