A bigger bottom number means smaller pieces: 1/8 is smaller than 1/4. ## In Jewish tradition The eighth day is the day after a seven-day period. It is the day of circumcision for a baby boy and a special closing day of the festival of Sukkot. **Interpretation.** The eighth day stands for going beyond the natural world of seven days.
