# entirely

adverb (entirely)

«entirely» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. Entirely means completely, totally, in every way. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/E/entirely/#m1)
2. Entirely can mean only, as in «entirely made of wood». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/E/entirely/#m2)

### In the lessons

In school writing and maths it makes a statement strong: «The shape is entirely shaded» means every part is shaded. In everyday speech «not entirely» means «not completely», a polite way to disagree. Phrases: «entirely different», «entirely your fault», «not entirely sure», «made entirely of».

### Examples

### Note

Spelled entire + ly (keep the «e»). «Not entirely» is softer than «not at all». In maths, «entirely» means the whole, every part, 100 per cent.
