## In Jewish tradition

In the Tanakh it can mean a court official as well as a castrated man. Isaiah speaks of eunuchs who keep the Sabbath.

**Interpretation.** Isaiah promises that eunuchs who hold to the covenant will have a better name than sons and daughters. Tradition reads this as welcoming people who feel left out.

### Examples

- Neither let the alien, that hath joined himself to the LORD, speak, saying: 'The LORD will surely separate me from His people'; neither let the eunuch say: 'Behold, I am a dry tree.' (Prophets ISA.56.3, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/E/eunuch/#x2)
