Spelling: double l, ends in -ent. Starts with a vowel sound: «an excellent». Usually no «more excellent» or «very excellent», since it already means extremely good. Noun: excellence; verb: excel.

## In Jewish tradition

It means very fine, noble or high, and can also mean wise and true. It describes God's glory and wise sayings.

**Interpretation.** Wisdom in Proverbs speaks of excellent things, which tradition reads as the Torah's teachings. The psalm calls God glorious and excellent.
