### Note

"Exercise" (physical activity in general) is uncountable: get some exercise. "An exercise" (one activity or task) is countable. Spelling: ex-er-cise. In maths, an exercise is a practice question; the answer usually uses the method just taught.

## In Jewish tradition

In these verses it can mean to be busy with a task, to practise a wicked act such as robbery, or to occupy oneself with a matter.

**Interpretation.** Ecclesiastes sees the human task as a burden God gives people to labor at. In Psalm 131 the tradition reads humility: the psalmist does not busy himself with matters too great for him.
