## In Jewish tradition

It means having no blemish. The red heifer must be perfect and never have worn a yoke.

**Interpretation.** The red heifer is called a "chok," a law without a stated reason. Tradition says its ashes purified people made unclean by contact with the dead, though it made the priests who prepared it unclean.

### Examples

- This is the statute of the law which the LORD hath commanded, saying: Speak unto the children of Israel, that they bring thee a red heifer, faultless, wherein is no blemish, and upon which never came yoke. - Keep back Thy servant also from presumptuous sins, that they may not have dominion over me; then shall I be faultless, and I shall be clear from great transgression. (Writings PSA.19.14, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/english/F/faultless/#x6)
