2. Fever is a state of great excitement, as in football fever. [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/F/fever/#m2)

### In the lessons

In health lessons, normal body temperature is about 37 °C (98.6 °F); a fever is a temperature above about 38 °C (100.4 °F). Fever is the body fighting germs. Rest, drink plenty, and tell an adult; a very high fever or a fever with a rash, stiff neck or breathing trouble needs a doctor. A thermometer measures it. Phrases: have a fever, run a fever, hay fever (an allergy, not a real fever), fever pitch, cabin fever (restless from staying indoors).

### Examples

- The LORD will smite thee with consumption, and with fever, and with inflammation, and with fiery heat, and with drought, and with blasting, and with mildew; and they shall pursue thee until thou perish. (Torah DEU.28.22, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/F/fever/#x1)
