«forbidden» in the English dictionary: everyday and in Jewish tradition — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

## In Jewish tradition

It means something God has told Israel not to do, as with making images.

**Interpretation.** The second commandment forbids carved images. Tradition reads the warning as a guard against idol worship.

### Examples

- Take heed unto yourselves, lest ye forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which He made with you, and make you a graven image, even the likeness of any thing which the LORD thy God hath forbidden thee.
