## In Jewish tradition

The fuller's field was outside Jerusalem, near the upper pool. Fuller's soap was a strong cleaning agent.

**Interpretation.** Malachi uses it with the refiner's fire for God's coming to purify the people. The tradition reads this as removing sin so the people can be clean.
