## In Jewish tradition

In the Torah it means the vessels and fittings of the Tabernacle, such as the ark, table, lampstand and altar. Later it also means the tools and gear of a work, such as the yokes and fittings of oxen, or the Temple vessels.

**Interpretation.** Tradition sees each item of the Tabernacle as holy and made exactly to the pattern God showed Moses. The Levites who cared for the Temple furniture were seen as guarding what was holy.
