### Note

Far, further, furthest; also far, farther, farthest. In UK English «furthest» is more common; in the US «farthest» is often used for distance. In maths, «furthest» = largest distance — find the maximum.

## In Jewish tradition

Job describes a miner who digs to the very farthest limit, searching out stones hidden in deep darkness.

**Interpretation.** The tradition reads this chapter as saying that people can dig out silver and gold but cannot find wisdom by their own effort. Wisdom comes from God.

### Examples

- Man setteth an end to darkness, and searcheth out to the furthest bound the stones of thick darkness and of the shadow of death. (Writings JOB.28.3, JPS 1917) [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/judaism/F/furthest/#x1)
