### In the lessons

### Note

Regular verb; usually followed by «at», «into» or «out of». Different from «stare»: «stare» can be rude or surprised; «gaze» is usually calm or dreamy. Safety: never gaze at the sun, even with sunglasses.

## In Jewish tradition

It means to look hard at God's presence on Mount Sinai, which the people were forbidden to do.

**Interpretation.** Tradition teaches that no human can see God and live, so the people had to keep their distance.
