### Meaning

1. (literal) is kind, friendly and pleasant.
2. (euphemism, dating gossip) is not considered good-looking, so the speaker praises character instead.

### In the lessons

Sincere praise in most talk, but in gossip and jokes it can hint that someone is not attractive; everyday, all regions. Tone matters.

### Examples

- My new teacher has a really nice personality.
- "What's he like?" "Well, he has a nice personality."
- Everyone likes Sara; she has a nice personality.
- The dog has a nice personality and loves children.
- In the joke, the blind date "has a nice personality" means he's not handsome.
- A nice personality matters more than looks.
- Grandma says Tom has a nice personality and good manners.
- When someone answers only "she has a nice personality", they may be hiding something.

### Note

Trap: usually real praise, but in gossip it can be a polite way to avoid saying someone is plain-looking. Plain meanings: kind and friendly; or not good-looking.
