### Meaning

1. (euphemism, school reports) has improved only a little; progress is slow.
2. (literal) has improved or moved forward.

### In the lessons

Teacher's report language: politely says «a little» when the teacher could say «not much»; polite, all English-speaking schools. Also used in business, medicine and news.

### Examples

- Isla has made some progress in her times tables.
- The report says Ben has made some progress with his handwriting.
- "Some progress?" asked Mum. "So not much, then."
- The doctors say the patient has made some progress.
- The talks between the countries have made some progress.
- Our team has made some progress this season.
- He has made some progress, but needs to practise reading at home.
- Compare: "has made excellent progress" is much better than "has made some progress".

### Note

Trap: «some» can be polite for «a little». Compare report words: «excellent progress» \> «good progress» \> «some progress» \> «limited progress». Plain meaning: improved a bit.
