# heartily

adverb

«heartily» in the English dictionary: everyday — its meanings, how the lessons use it, and examples, each with its tree on Mova.

## Everyday

1. With a lot of energy, warmth and enjoyment, as in «laughed heartily» or «ate heartily». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/H/heartily/#m1)
2. Completely; very much, as in «heartily sick of» or «heartily agree». [tree →](https://mova.elamur.ai/free/en/corpora/dictionaries/school/H/heartily/#m2)

### In the lessons

Common in stories and everyday speech: «laughed heartily», «ate heartily», «welcomed us heartily». «Heartily sick of something» means really tired of it. Badger and Rat eat heartily after their adventures in The Wind in the Willows.

### Note

Adverb from «hearty» (y → i). Pronounced HAR-ti-lee. It is about energy and warmth, not about the heart organ. «Heartily» in «heartily sick of» is a strong «very».
