### In the lessons

Hedgerows are typical of the British and Irish countryside. In science, a hedgerow is a habitat: birds nest in it, hedgehogs and dormice hide in it, and blackberries, hawthorn and wild roses grow there. In The Wind in the Willows, the animals travel along country lanes between hedgerows, and Toad's caravan rolls past them. Many hedgerows were pulled up for bigger fields, and now people are planting them again.
